2010 Student of Integrity Awards Scholarships
THE PRIZE: Six Scholarships of $1,000.00 will be awarded from the BBB’s Educational Foundation.
AWARD GUIDELINES: Entries will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of business leaders. Judges will select the scholarship recipients based on their overall personal integrity and character, their personal achievements, contributions to their communities and schools, and academic accomplishments
ELIGIBILITY: Any students who are members of the graduating class of 2010 and attending accredited high schools in Georgia counties Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, Dekalb, Douglas, Elbert, Fayette, Forsyth, Franklin, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Habersham, Haralson, Hart, Henry, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Rabun, Rockdale, Spalding, Stephens, Towns, Union, Walton and White are eligible to apply for the 2010 Student of Integrity Award Scholarships.
CRITERIA: The criteria for the award include:
Leadership 10%, Community service 10%, Academic 10%, Essay 70%. Students should demonstrate their commitment to high ethical behavior and provide documentation in the following areas:
- Leadership 10% -Describe any extra-curricular, school-related activities. Include awards/honors or offices held. List past and present employers and describe positions held (if applicable, not required).
- Community Service 10% - Describe activities outside of school and within your community, such as church or special community activities.
- Academic 10% - Enclose a copy of most recent transcript and describe post-secondary education plans. If you receive a sealed copy of your transcript, please open the transcript and make three copies.
- Essay 70% - Write a 500-word essay on “The importance of trust in your life and in business.” Discuss your viewpoints and give examples, as applicable. You may want to discuss how trust involves integrity, honesty and civility in our community.
- All essays become property of the BBB. Winners’ names may be released to the public and news media for promotional purposes.
PROCEDURE: Mail the completed application form, essay and other information in folders to: Dottie Callina, Student Integrity Awards, BBB, 503 Oak Place, Suite 590, Atlanta, GA 30349. Incomplete entries will not be accepted or acknowledged. Please make sure that all folders (3) are complete. Sealed copies of transcripts can be opened and copied. Folders can be the type purchased at value stores – they do not need to be binders.
DEADLINE: Must be postmarked or hand delivered by January 31, 2010.
AWARD: Recipients of BBB Student Integrity Awards will be asked to attend the BBB’s Torch Awards Ceremony (time and date to be announced). The scholarship will be made payable to the winning students.
